A fun filled morning with the MPLS Water Plant tour guide and a group of enthusiasts who wanted to learn more about the origin of MPLS tap water. The tour welcomed community members and community leaders of all ages. This was definitely an opportunity to learn more about the process and steps that it takes to provide the city with safe drinking water.
- Minneapolis tap water comes from the Mississippi River. The water is treated to remove some of the hardness and objectionable tastes and odors then disinfected and filtered at our Fridley and Columbia Heights water treatment plants. We run over 500 analytical tests per day on our water to ensure we are providing safe, high quality drinking water.
- The average family of four uses between 8,000-12,000 gallons, on average, per month. This works out to around 70-100 gallons per day per person. Of that, less than 5% is used for cooking or drinking. The rest is used for personal hygiene, laundry and other household tasks.
- Minneapolis Public Works takes pride in the water that they provide to their residents. They are happy to report that no contaminants were detected at levels that violated federal drinking water standards during 2014.

A successful family night in the back lot of our facility. The families had a great time and with the visit from our friends from the Minneapolis Police Dept. and Hennepin County Sheriff Dept., there were plenty of fun and laughs to go around. A BIG Thank You to all that attended the event and in support of our youth and literature community. Stay updated for more events like this.
Rethink Your Drink Campaign kick off! It was great to be a part of an event that is actively encouraging the choices of drinking healthier beverages instead of sugary sweetened beverages.
Meet the newest member of the team, Peter Chang. He is the go-to-guy for any Marketing/Outreach related items. A little about Peter below to give you a better scope of our new AWESOME member:
What is your favorite coloring book?
Favorite coloring book will have to be all kids coloring book. They're simple and still fun. Plus I get to spend time with my little nieces and nephews and color awesome art. Helps you get to learn from each other also.
Who is an inspiring role model in your life? Why?
My inspiring role model will always be my mom. She is not a high school or college graduate, but the lesson on life and the knowledge she has taught me is more than any university or school will ever teach me. She is my rock, my spine, my mentor, my heart. She has a Phd in my eyes and living proof of who I am today.
What's your favorite music album?
I have too many albums to list on here but some of my favorite albums are Purple Rain by Prince, Crossroads by Bon Jovi and 8701 by Usher.
Favorite quote and an advice on opportunities for the up and coming.
“Many people view leadership the same way they view success, hoping to go as far as they can, to climb the ladder, to achieve the highest position possible for their talent. But contrary to conventional thinking, I believe the bottom line in leadership isn't how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others. That is achieved by serving others and adding value to their lives.” - John C. Maxwell
Some personal advice from me and that I live by also is really be who you are or work on becoming the person you really want to be. No one lives your life but yourself. You must always want more or also to do more for a greater cause. Having a positive mindset everyday will be the outcome of your day and the next. Stop thinking the world is against you when its really you against the world.
